Becoming More Golden: 17 over 70 to Watch in 2017

At Modern Senior Magazine, we love a good movie. From high-flying action and adventure, to tear-jerking romance, we’ve watched them all. As we start 2017, we thought it’d be fun to highlight our favorite Silver Screen veterans to help you keep your eyes peeled for their future movies this year.

  1. Alan Arkin (82)

After taking some time off from acting, Alan Arkin is ready to make a comeback. This year he’s lighting up the big screen with two famous co-stars: Morgan Freeman and Michael Cain. Catch the three of them in the upcoming comedy, Going in Style.

  1. Michael Caine (83)

Michael Caine is a beloved award-winning actor who’s known for his roles in films like Alfie, Hannah and Her Sisters and the latest Batman incarnations. With his ability to be comedic or dramatic at the drop of a hat, Caine will exercise his comedic chops in the side splitting comedy Coup D’etat.

  1. Robert De Niro (73)

Known for the dramas The Godfather: Part II, Taxi Driver, and Goodfellas, Robert De Niro also provides quite the comedic turn. Movies like Meet the Fockers and Silver Linings Playbook highlight his comedy chops. See De Niro next in The War with Grandpa.

  1. Judi Dench (82)

There’s a new queen in town and her name is Judi Dench. For her latest role, Dench will star as Queen Victoria in Victoria and Abdul. This isn’t Judi’s first time playing a queen. Her awarding winning performance as Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love makes her return to royalty a must see.

  1. Bruce Dern (80)

Watch out for Bruce Dern this year. He’s been busy in Hollywood and is expected to hit the Silver Screen a whopping 10 times in 2017. We recommend catching him in American Violence alongside Denise Richards and Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau

  1. Jane Fonda (79)

Actress, writer, political activist, former fashion model and fitness guru. These are just a few things that define Jane Fonda. Look out for her next project co-staring with Robert Redford in Our Souls at Night.

  1. Harrison Ford (72)

Indiana Jones. Han Solo. Harrison Ford. Known for playing the scoundrel everyone loves, Ford is returning this year in Blade Runner’s sequel, Blade Runner 2049. We can’t wait to see the continuation of this Sci-Fi favorite.

  1. Morgan Freeman (79)

From Driving Miss Daisy to his narration in March of the Penguins, Morgan Freeman is a jack-of–all-trades. Not only are his acting skills phenomenal, his distinctively smooth, deep voice has become legend. Morgan Freeman will play opposite of Tommy Lee Jones in the action comedy Villa Capri.

  1. Anthony Hopkins (79)

An Academy Award winner known for his role as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, Anthony Hopkins returns with two new movies this year. Hopkins will be joined by all-star casts in both Transformers: The Last Knight and Thor: Ragnarok.

  1. Ben Kingsley (73)

From his famous role as the living saint in Ghandhi to the pseudo-villain in Iron Man 3, Ben Kingsley always delights. Watch him in An Ordinary Man and keep an eye out for any cameo appearances he makes in movies both past and present.

  1. Christopher Lloyd (78)

With films like Back to the Future and The Adams Family, Christopher Lloyd is a well-known comedic actor. This year he will take on a different role, co-starring alongside Rose McGowan in the psychological thriller The Sound.

  1. Shirley MacLaine (82)

Shirley MacLaine has enjoyed an impressive career in film, television and theater for more than six decades. She’s known for performances in The Apartment, Sweet Charity and Terms of Endearment. In her upcoming film, MacLaine will star opposite Amanda Seyfried in The Last Word.

  1. Ian Mckellen (77)

Recognized worldwide for portraying Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings series, Ian Mckellen will take on a new role this year. He will be a part of the all-star cast in Disney’s live action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Mckellen will portray Cogsworth; the Beast’s majordomo, who as part of the curse was turned into an enchanted clock.

  1. Helen Mirren (71)

From The Queen to Red, Helen Mirren remains one of our favorite Silver Screen dames. See her next in
Fast and Furious 8: The Fate of the Furious alongside Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

  1. Patrick Stewart (76)

Patrick Stewart is the king of Sci-Fi from his on-going roles in the X-Men and Star Trek series. Stewart will return as Charles Xavier in the latest Marvel Comics superhero film, Logan. This will be the tenth installment in the X-Men saga.

  1. Lily Tomlin (77)

Known for her roles in 9 to 5 and I ♥ Huckabees, 2017 is going to be a big year for comedian Lily Tomlin. Tomlin received the SAG Life Achievement Award at the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 29th. Catch Tomlin in her next film The Madness Within.

  1. Raquel Welch (76)

Raquel Welch launched into fame in One Million Years B.C. and soon became known as the bombshell of the 60’s. Still regarded as a great beauty, Welch’s latest performance is supported by an all-star cast in How to be a Latin Lover.

Our list of Silver Screen veterans provides an inspiring reminder that escaping to the movies can give us that exhilarating, unforgettable feeling of hope.
